Student Suffers Motorbike loss in Male Hostel

Usman Mustapha reports.

It is not an unprecedented incident in the halls of residents of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, that  miscreants will burgle male hostels every Friday when Muslim students evacuate from hostel for jumaat prayer.
The supposed good Fridays for every Muslim has become a day that hoodlums  exploit to break into the  hostels and perpetrate their evil acts in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Hostel.

On Friday, 21th of Dec. 2018, a motorcycle was stolen by an unknown who burgled into a male hostel, room number 11 in B Block at Jibril Aminu hall.

The Incident happened  around 10am to 1:00pm, when the hostel occupants had left the hostel. The victim, who is one of the three residents, left the room at 10:00am for  ETF3 to guide the new students on registration process .

The victim who identified himself as Surajudeen, a 400level student of pure and applied chemistry expressed his sadness over the loss of his motorcycle and explained that he has never experienced such an incident before because he has been living off-hostel since his first year

The victim told PEN PRESS that, While he was tracing  the bike after the incident, he discovered that the burglar took the motorbike along the backside of the A block(Nearby block) and the burglar left the rag used to cleanse the bike in the bush. The white with blue  design shirt that was found in the bush depicted that the motorbike was taken to a nearby village in the school.

The incident was believed to have been caused by the ongoing ASUU strike which looses the security officers guarding the halls of residents during Jumaat Prayer

On how long he has been using the bike, Surajudeen said that he has been using the bike for the past two years .
"I have been using the bike since my year 2 when I stayed in town.
I bought it in Zamfara, my native land, from a machine dealer". He said.

Suraju, a native of Zamfara explained that, the reason why he is still on campus despite the strike is because he has Islamic schools that he used to attend in sokoto town and because he is one of the officials of Dawaah committee of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Udus Branch,he said:
"I have to stay on Campus despite the strike because I usually go to Islamic schools and I also have to attend to new intakes for admission guidelines and counselling"

When asked on whether he suspects anybody he said :
"I don't think it is student that did it, it may likely be Villagers"

On whether the theft affected any other members of the room, Issah Ahmed, a resident in the room said, the robbers only came for the machine as they didn't touch any other thing apart from the machine.
"They stole the machine only, they didn't touch any other thing else "

He further expressed his surprise over the level of expertise they showed in breaking the lock,he said:
"Those people are expert in breaking the Door, the lock and the key to the door were firm and strong"

I believe it would have taken them  up to 5mins before they could easily penetrate. Hammed said.

The Students' Union Welfare director, Comr. A A Funtua pleaded to all students to protect their property from theft
"Things like motorcycle can be taken to the security place for proper protection"

He however concluded that the Union, will not stop getting in touch with the security unit over the malady.
"The executives of the union have met with the chief security on the issue of insecurity in male hostel, they have been trying to sort it out. Probably they keep off because of the strike " He said.
