UDUS Holds Matriculation Ceremony for Newly Admitted Students

The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has on Monday 20 December 2021 conducted its annual matriculation ceremony for the newly admitted 100-Level, 200-Level students and the new students into the postgraduate programme who are not graduate of this school.
The programme which took place at the University Convocation Theater, main campus, was graced by important dignitaries of the University, among them are the Vice-Chancellor, Professor L.S Bilbis, Professor Aminu Muhammad Mode, Dean Students' Affairs, Dr A. M. Inuwa, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education.
After the opening prayer which was said by Mallam Bello Hassan from the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Vice President of the Students' Union Caretaker Committee, Fatimah Abdulaziz Abdullahi, a 400-Level Agriculture student delivered an opening remark where she stated that the new students have been waiting for the memorable event.


"A lot has happened within the moment we have waited, so get ready to accept the words of our elders with a grateful heart,” she said.
According to her, the newly admitted students have every reason to be proud, because they were lucky to be admitted into the most peaceful university in Nigeria.
She also implored the students to adhere to the school rules and regulations of the university, noting that the university will not condone any illegal acts from them.
"Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, awards her certificates based on character and learning," she asserted.
Professor Aminu Mode, the Dean of Students' Affairs urged the newly admitted students to face their studies, regardless of any situation they find themselves in.
He noted that the students will be mentally, emotionally, and socially disturbed, but they should always find a way to pick themselves up.
"The students' handbook will be given to you this week and the orientation programme will come up on Wednesday, 23 December 2021 by 10 a.m," he said.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis advised the new students to be good ambassadors of themselves and their parents, urged them not to go against any of the university protocols.



He, however, revealed the details of students admitted for the 2020/2021 academic session.
"16,000 applicants applied, while 5, 532 applicants were admitted, he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also explained that it was obvious from the distribution of the numbers that the University maintained its trajectory of giving priority to science-related programmes.
"This complies with the federal government directive on Science to Humanity students ratio of 60:40; and our response to the desire of the country for rapid development through advancement in science and technology," he said.
He, therefore, stated that UDUS has outstanding quality in both character modelling and learning.
The event, however, ended with the recitation of the Nigeria National Anthem.
