November 23rd, 2005 in Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was elected as the first woman President of an African country when she won the Liberian Presidential elections. Her inauguration took place on January 16, 2006, with a number of international politicians attending and Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush from the United States.

Also, on November 23rd, 2001 in Hungary, the convention on Cybercrime was signed by members of the council of Europe, the USA, Canada, Japan, and the Republic of South Africa in Budapest, Hungary. The treaty's objective was to pursue a common criminal policy aimed at the protection of society against cybercrime, including computer-related forgery and fraud, child pornography, and cyber-terrorism. As with any piece of legislation the problems come from balancing civil liberty and privacy concerns with the need to catch criminal elements using the Internet for illegal uses.

November 23rd, 2002 in Nigeria, the Miss World contest was forced to relocate to London from Abuja after riots by Muslim youths opposed to the show left more than 100 people dead and 500 injured in the city of Kaduna.

23rd November 1992, Destiny Hope Cyrus, born in Nashville, Tennessee, US, was Best known as Miley Stewart Hannah Montana in the television series Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel. She has also released two music albums Meet Miley Cyrus and Breakout which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. she is the daughter of the country singer Billy Ray Cyrus.

On November 23rd, 1980 in Italy, an earthquake between 6.5 and 6.8 on the Richter scale struck southern Italy centered on Conza, and the worst-hit areas were Sant'Angelo di Lombardi, Lioni, Naples, Teora, and Balvano, the death toll was believed to be in the region of 3,000 and has left over 300,000 homeless. In Balvano a small mountain village where more than 100 persons were reported killed, many of them in the collapse of a 600-year-old church during evening vespers services.

Furthermore, On November 23rd, 1983 in Switzerland, Missile Talks Broke Down. The Soviets walked out from a Geneva Missile Talks session. Members of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Association) urged the Russians to come back to the meeting table. However, the talks had already gone on for about two years, and the Russians were unlikely to be convinced very easily to return.

On November 23rd, 1953 in Russia, Russia had been approved to join in the Korean peace talks.
However, they were initiated on the side of the Communists rather than as being neutral. The Korean peace conference had been already going on for about five weeks by this time.

November 23rd, 1963 in the UK, the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who from the BBC was shown on TV for the first time. "the Doctor" played by William Hartnell in the first series travels through time and space in the TARDIS ( A blue 1950's police box ). Over 40 years featuring some doctors fighting alien baddies including the Daleks "Doctor Who" has gained a cult status in Britain and was also the longest-running science fiction television show in the world.

On November 23rd, 1942 in the U.S.A, President Roosevelt signed legislation authorizing the establishment of a women's coast guard auxiliary, called the Spars, this will relieve officers and men for duty at sea by replacing them with women in shore establishments.

November 23rd, 1945 in Germany, American prosecutors charged German troops with various war crimes. Hitler's aides were present during these proceedings, and evidence was presented that Hitler's regime had used aggressive warfare techniques that had cost the lives of millions of people. One of the biggest concerns was the announcement of the extermination of Polish and Polish-speaking individuals. Orders to kill them had been given by Hitler as early as 1939.

November 23rd, 1985 in Greece, Egypt Air Flight 648 was Hijacked. Terrorists belonging to the Abu Nidal Palestinian terrorist Organization hijack EgyptAir Flight 648 shortly after takeoff from Athens. The pilot was forced to land the aircraft at Luqa Airport in Malta. After some negotiation, some of the passengers were allowed off but as the terrorists became more desperate they began shooting passengers one every 15 minutes. As the situation worsened an Egyptian Combat Unit is bought in and on the 25th they attack the aircraft with explosives and stormed the aircraft. The commando raid ended in a disaster leaving 56 (out of the remaining 88) passengers, two crew members, and one terrorist dead.

November 23rd, 1996 on the Comoro Islands. Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 767 Flight ET961 flying from Addis Ababa to Nairobi is hijacked by three men, four hours later after running out of fuel it was forced to ditch into the sea, at least 100 people were killed when the plane disintegrated as it attempted to land.
