UDUS SU CTC Represent UDUS at UNESCO Capacity Building Workshop

In response to the letter sent to the Vice-Chancellor of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), on 1st of October, 2021, inviting the Students' Union leaders and the Students Affairs Division to the two-days capacity building workshop at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

The Chairman of the Students' Union caretaker committee, UDUS, Comrade Shamsudeen Muhammad Umar, the Vice Chairman, Comrade Fatima AbdulAzeez, and the General Secretary, Abdulrahman Salihu Musa, honoured the invitation by attending the two-day workshop which commenced on Thursday, 14th of October, 2021 and ended on Friday, 15th October at the Princess Alexandria Auditorium University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

The aim of organising the workshop is to reinforce the capacities of Students' Union leaders to transform students' movement for peace and good governance in Nigeria.

The letter read thus: "INVITATION OF STUDENT UNION LEADERS AND A STAFF OF STUDENT AFFAIRS TO A CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON TRANSFORMING STUDENTS’ MOVEMENT FOR PEACE AND GOOD GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA


"Considering the enormous challenges of the student movement in Nigeria which are dissipating the significance of students’ voice and promoting students’ engagement in violence, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in partnership with University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) invite the Students' Union President and Vice President as well as a Staff of Student Affairs Unit/Department of your institution to participate in A 2- Day Capacity Building Workshop to reinforce the capacities of student union leaders to transform students’ movement for consolidation of peace and good governance in Nigeria."

The letter further stated that the participants were selected randomly from universities across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria as the organization pledged to cater for all their costs of traveling and meals.

In an exclusive interview with the UDUS Students' Union CTC chairman, Comrade Shamsudeen Muhammad Umar, he disclosed that only UDUS among all the Universities in the Northwest region was privileged to be invited to attend the workshop where the Union's General Secretary represented the Dean of Students' Affairs in presenting the goodwill message from the Vice-Chancellor.

He, however, stated that he was the only person selected among the students' leaders to be part of the resource persons in the workshop.

“They did this because of the confidence they see from UDUS," he added.
