THE DEVASTATING EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY ON OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

BY: NURUDEEN AKEWUSHOLA

In the world today, it is quite obvious and irrefutable that technology plays a pivot role in uplifting our educational system superfluously and thus becomes the fragile spine tool necessary before the educational system of any nation can be considered as standard.
Despite the above laudable impacts of technology, the degrading fortune due to its consolidation with our educational system is yet to be realized by many, even though it calls for serious reposition to prevent future consequences.
According to statistical survey "73% of nowadays teenagers possess mobile phone and access internet where majority exhaust their time and thus distract them from conducting researches that would benefit their future.
Yes! It is the internet that makes it easy for students to have access to wider academic benefits but the benefit becomes regretfully alarming in Nigeria where its becomes a platform exploit by idle students for chatting, playing games and other unnecessary vices at the time they should use for something beneficial. Even some students see nothing bad in pressing their phone whilst lecture is on.
Furthermore, technology has contributed a gross adverse to students ability to observe, reflect and find solution to simple problems on their own therein being the major causes of mass failure in examination.
For instance students nowadays cannot handle some simple roles on their own without the help of search engine called GOOGLE.
It is funny that some students cannot write their own biography themselves, even some when you ask them "what is your name? they will say let me search Google". With no iota of slander one can conclusively posit that, "GOOGLE has filled up the brain of students nowadays and now becomes the oracle they consult in all their academic even in their life affair"
Psychiatrists have discovered that "those who are addicted to porn have smaller brain volume and lower retentive memory"while the website paint bottle estimated that "30% of data transferred online is porn" meaning that erotica films have become viral on the internet, it is inevitable on internet unless if one is scrupulous internet user. I still wonder why some illicit films are strictly restricted for 18 year old above on internet, my bone of contentment now is that: Is watching porn good for adults or for teenagers when they become an adult? This writer expects answer from the website regulated body and make necessary adjustment.
Cumulatively speaking, our educational system now totally depends on technology right from the way students are admitted, lecture is coordinated(Projector),Examination is conducted (Computer Based Test) and all other processes depend on technology and conversely makes us very lazy and kills our natural morale gradually
Meanwhile, it is to be noted that this writer is not advocating for the total abolishment of technology but the way it is being used by students is alarming and need to be curtailed and minimized before it berserks our educational system.
It is also necessary for Parent to monitor their children on how they utilize their sets, Government should establish a website regulatory body and gazette a ban on illicit websites and individual should abstain from any internet vices that add no value to humanity
