Kabiru Jelani, a former second Imam of the Academic mosque, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has graduated with first-class honours from the Department of Science and Vocational Studies, Faculty of Education and Extension Services, UDUS.
Kabiru Jelani who studied Education and Chemistry has also been announced as the best graduating student of the academic session 2019/2020 in the department.
PEN PRESS UDUS, in an interview with Kabiru Jelani who hails from Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara State and is a member of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, learned that the first-class graduate started with 4.63 of 5.0 CGPA in his first year in school, but eventually graduated with 4.53 CGPA.
"I am the only first-class graduate among the graduating students from my Department," he added.
When Jelani was asked about his reading style which has made him maintain such sumptuous results, he could only say that he didn't have any method of reading, but noted that God has blessed him with a retentive memory.
He continued, "l have a brain that can cram a lot of pages in a few hours, that was what simply helped me, l can even remember there was a time l memorized 47 pages within 3 hours. I have a high rate of memorizing books and so the speed of understanding them as well. I don't have any method of reading actually but I have and create time for learning."
Jelani also added that he used to read in the morning and night as that's the sole reason why he was known in mathematics classes.
He also asserted that he studied both western and religious knowledge at the Jibril Aminu hostel with his mates.
Similarly, the first-class graduate noted that he did not like girls around him as that seemed a lot of distraction to him while on campus.
"I don't mingle with ladies, so I made sure I focus all my concentrations and sacrifice all my attention on my studies," Jelani disclosed.
Being a native of Shinkafi local government, Jelani was compensated with the sum of ten thousand nairas (#10,000) by Dr Tijjani Shinkafi, a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry; as a part of his compliments to encourage the student, especially, for seeing an indigene of Shinkafi just like him prospering in leaps and bounds.
