Abdullahi Fodiyo Library Adjusts Opening Hours Amid First Semester Break

Abdulrasheed Akere Abdulkareem reports,

On Tuesday, 8th February 2022, Abdullahi Fodiyo Library which is the main library of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has announced its opening hours during the first-semester break.

According to the circular released by the Reader's Service Librarian, Mallam A.A. Ahmed, as received by PEN PRESS UDUS, the library will, during this break, be opened from Monday to Thursday, between 8:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m. Its opening hour on Fridays is between 8:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m, while on Saturdays, between 8:00 a.m and - 2:00 p.m.

"The library will be closed every Sunday, and any public holiday," the circular contains.

In an interview with the University Librarian, Dr Ahmed K. Nuhu, he said that what the library did has already been written in the manual given to each student during their registration with the library.

"The library doesn't close during the semester or holiday unless there is a public holiday licensed by the school management. The only thing to do is to change the opening hours," he asserted.

He added that every student that doesn't travel home for holiday should be informed to make use of the library in respect to the stipulated time.

While speaking with PEN PRESS UDUS, Kenneth E. Wilson, the circulation Librarian, added that the library cannot be closed for no reason because it's the nerve centre of the university.

“If the undergraduate students vacate, there are many researchers and postgraduate students that need the library attention; so, if it was to be closed, who will serve them?" Kenneth rhetorically declared.
