UDUS Holds 29th Inaugural Lecture On International Law

The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has on Thursday, 9th December 2021 held her 29th Inaugural Lecture on International Law at the University's Auditorium.

Prof. Abubakar Sani Ridwan Matazu, the Professor of International Law and the first Prof. of Law in Katsina State discussed the topic themed: “Parable of International Law: Forward-Backward Of The Concept In The Context of Human Rights and Armed Conflict".

Professor Mutazu explained what international law is and defined it as the collection of laws that are accepted between the countries as the laws that will govern the activities they engage in with one another.

He cited a plethora of treaties to reinforce his stance and elucidated more on armed conflict and its principles under International Law.

He discussed deeply on what armed conflict is and also articulated its principles. He highlighted the aims and objectives of International law which include Peace; Security, Relations, Rights, stating that it chases away threat force and provides for peace and world protection.

He contended that the international organizations are not the only ones that have helped in promoting the above aims but also NGOs like UN Watch, Front Line Defenders, Humanity in Action, and others.

"The lecture is superb and the research is conducted brilliantly," AbdulLateef Maryam, a 200-Level student of Law commented.

While speaking with Pen Press, Ustaqhu, a 400-Level student of Education Biology said that he thanked God for not missing the educative and intriguing programme.

“I really learnt something new," he asserted.
