The North is the chunk of Nigeria, comprising three (North-West, North-East, and North-Central) of Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Northern Nigeria also encompasses nineteen of the country's thirty-six states.
Northern Nigeria boasts a massive population, arraying many ethnic groups speaking multivarious languages. Amongst the population are patriotic scholars, leaders and artisans.
Nigeria in its entirety has been battling insecurity, with the Northern part of the country being the hotbed. Many Northerners have lost their lives to terrorism and insurgency, which still riddles the region, unconquered.
The North bleeds profusely, like a woman in labour, as the blood of the innocent paints their fatherland. Official records betray citizens who have become orphans and indigent, no thanks to the reign of terrorism, banditry, and crises patronising the region. Unfortunately, the Nigerian government fails to overcome the acute insecurity the nation faces, and more agents of anarchy erupt to disrupt Nigeria's peace.
On Monday, 6 December 2021, bandits notorious for kidnapping and killing struck again. They sent 23 passengers to their creator and injured many others after blazing a 42-seater bus en route to Kaduna State, in Sabon Birni Local Government of Sokoto State. Despite the atrocities they committed, the Government of Nigeria hasn't smoked them out of their hiding place.
Wednesday, 16 December 2021, came with reports of bandits killing a member of the Kaduna state assembly, Rilwanu Aminu Gadagau, who represented the Giwa West constituency, in cold blood and inside his car.
Northerners, aroused by the bitter experiences that have been their lot because of insecurity, brought their #NorthIsBleeding clamour to the streets, organising a peaceful protest in Abuja on 16 December 2021.
In conclusion, insecurity in the North and Nigeria as an entity must be addressed by our leaders because we deserve to live safely. Security must be assigned utmost priority to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians.
