Welcome to our world where ladies claim to be dressed yet look naked. Guys, on the other hand, prefer wearing tattered trousers as that's what suits them best. Imagine where sanity resides in this kind of world!!!
Dressing is a significant part of almost every culture and a medium of socio-cultural expression - a form of communication. It is considered as an aspect of non-verbal communication that conveys clues about a speaker's personality, background and financial status. Dressing also represents non-verbal communication which expresses acknowledgement or rejection. It does not only show appearance, but also represents our interior world.
Universities now play home to all forms of immoral acts despite the efforts of well-meaning individuals to ensure the opposite. One of the vices eating up the youths is indecent dressing, especially amongst female students on campuses. Ladies roam about with skirts an inch over her underwear or clothes so tight that all her God-given endowments are on show.
On the other hand, you see guys with unkempt hair and jeans deliberately battered across the lengths. They reveal their boxers by lowering their waistbands to the middle of their bottom lobes.What level of fashion should these be called for crying out loud‽ What is the essence of your clothes if you aren't comfortable‽ Why not parade the streets butt-naked if you so desire to look like a lunatic‽
Amazingly, no religion supports indecent dressing. The Christians’ book, the bible, in Timothy 2: 9-10, says, "God requires that we dress modestly. He is not against wearing expensive clothing or looking beautiful. But as much as should our dressing should not look immoral or indecent....."
In the same vein, Qur’an chapter 7: 26 reads "O children of Adam, we have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment......"
Civilisation is not exercised though immoral dressing, it enables one to engage in critical thinking.Thus, it is upon us to reflect upon on our styles of dressing, having in mind that “As you dress, shall you be addressed”.
