The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has warned all the class representatives that have developed habit of obtaining money from their course mates for the purpose of authentication/official stamp and/or lamination of examination cards.
This was disclosed in a circular sent from the office of the Vice-Chancellor, and signed by the Chairman Examinations Monitoring Committee, Prof. Yahaya T. Baba.
PEN PRESS gathered that lamination of examination cards is the student's responsibility, not the responsibility of the class representatives.
According to the circular, the practice of collecting money from coursemates for the purpose of authentication/official stamp and/or lamination of examination cards constitutes an act of extortion that amounts to gross misconduct, which is punishable by the relevant University regulations.
"Therefore, students and particularly class representatives are hereby WARNED to desist from any unauthorized financial exchanges and/or imposition of levies, as the University authority will not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary measures against students found guilty of this act of misconduct," the circular reads.
"Students are reminded that signing and/or stamping of examination cards is free and does not attract any levy regardless of the circumstances," it concluded.
