EDITORIAL: In Praise of Prof. Bilbis, the UDUS Vice-Chancellor

According to William Shakespeare, "Good things should be praised." This quote prompts us to applaud the efforts of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor for his efforts towards uplifting this institution to compete with universities in Nigeria and the diaspora.

As a student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, you need not be notified of the execution of numerous developmental projects since he emerged as the Vice-Chancellor.
Since Professor Bilbis assumed the lead position of the institution, he has given his best bet to make sure that UDUS measures up to and even beyond other second-generation tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Thus, we believe he deserves accolades for a progressive job.
Students of the Fodiyo Varsity are testaments to the tremendous impact of the VC on infrastructure, research, innovation, technology, and other sectors of the university.
The infrastructural development witnessed in Prof. L.S Bilbis's era is salient. His emergence as the VC of UDUS is marked by new ultramodern buildings, roads, drainages and pavements, renovation of classes, solar-powered street lights, and the launch of a radio station on university soil. These remarkable changes give the university a competitive edge against her sisters.
Similarly, to improve research and blended learning on the UDUS campus, the administration has made provisions for wireless networks in all faculties. The rationale behind this is to make research easy for the university community.
Thanks to the Vice-Chancellor, there have also been many inaugural lectures on various fields, including International Law, History, Nigerian Languages, Intellectual Property Law, and others, encouraging creativity and facilitating the dispensation of knowledge among the students, lecturers, and staff of the most peaceful university in Nigeria.
The Bilbis tenure deserves credit for creating the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation to boost research and innovation in the university whilst providing research grants for postgraduate students. These scholarships and grants are worthy of commendation.
Moreso, Computer-Based tests have replaced written tests for many courses across several departments, easing lecturers' burden of marking thousands of test and examination scripts. Also, GST test results come out a few hours later, in speedy similitude to the overall results, which appear within a week.
In recognition of the new dispensation, the Nigerian University Commission, NUC, ranked UDUS 3rd amongst the tertiary institutions in the North-West, adding the 'best institution in terms of a full professorship' title to the portfolio of the university.
Furthermore, the NUC approved 28 professional courses for Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degrees upon the proposal of the incumbent administration. Some of the approved courses include M.SC and Ph.D. in Medical Laboratory Science, Doctor of Optometry, M.SC in Public Administration and Peace and Conflict Studies, and B.SC in Mass Communication and other lucrative programmes. Professor Bilbis, during his matriculation ceremony remark, affirmed that 98% of the programmes in the university have full accreditation status.
It is equally worthy of note that the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, now has active social media handles like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other media through which the social media officials disseminate information regarding the school.
Because of the commitment of the current administration, the recent graduates' statements of results are ready for collection. Thus, they can apply for scholarship opportunities and explore the world with their certificates. In addition, the original certificates of those that graduated two years ago are also ready for collection.
Withal, the university recently secured a fire service car to contain fire outbreaks. Blended learning came to stay in tandem with the revival of the E-Library to ensure that the students have free access to sources of information.
Upon the projects of the incumbent VC and his effort towards taking UDUS to a greater height, we find it necessary to commend and encourage him to continue the meritorious work.
While we have highlighted some achievements of the Vice-Chancellor that we remember. You have the liberty to include more in the comment section.
God bless UDUS, the most peaceful university in Nigeria!
God bless our amiable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bilbis!
UDUS is the best and will remain the best!
