UDUS Library Management Responds To Students' Complaints On Change Of Library Opening Hours

Abdulrasheed Akere Abdulkareem reports,

The management of Abdullahi Fodiyo's Library at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has replied to the complaints of students on the rescheduling of the library daily opening hours.

The response was contained in a statement released on Wednesday 3rd November, 2021. According to the statement, the library has rescheduled its daily working hours from 8 am to 10 pm to 8 am to 9 pm.

The CTC chairman of the Students' Union, Muhammad Shamsudeen Umar has apologized to all students for any inconveniences the changes may cause.

Speaking with a librarian, Mallam Sulaiman R. Ibrahim, on Sunday 14th November to verify the case, he explained that the changes was due to the insecurity in the state.

"It has been called to the notice of the school that bandits have been disturbing the peace of some local governments in Sokoto State. Also, the Sokoto State Government gave an order that every citizen must be in their various houses latest at 10 p.m; anyone caught outside after the stipulated time will be charge for criminal offense,” he added.

He explained further that due to the above reasons the school management urged the library to remove one hour from the normal working hours. This is to make every member of the library staff to be in their homes before 10 pm because some of the members of staff are living in far places like Bodinga, Dange-shuni and Wamako area.

“Mallam Sulaiman R. Ibrahim had sometimes moved the motion of making the library to be operating for 24/7 hours but the management said that it will be inconvenient for the library workers to be coming to work in tbe night because of insecurity,” he confessed.

“The library was opened for you students and we always want to satisfy you but we apologize for the inconveniences right now, it is not our fault," he concluded.
