Faruq Ibrahim Olaoti, a 200-Level student of Political Science, doubling as the Publicity Secretary at Pen press UDUS and Social Director at National Association of Campus Journalists, UDUS has emerged overall winner at the Inter-Faculty Oratory contest.
The Inter-Faculty Oratory contest was among the programs that were featured in the yearly program organized by the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, MSSN UDUS, named Marhabah Week.
The Marhaba week is an annual program meant for all the new and returning Muslim students of the University, to enlighten, orientate and welcome them back to the campus.
This year's program was organised for four days on two campuses of the institution (main campus and Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital (UDUTH). The Inter-Faculty Debate Competition was held at UDUTH on Saturday 20th November 2021, while the Inter-Faculty oratory contest took place on Tuesday, 23rd November 2021, at the ETF3 lecture hall, UDUS main campus.
The Inter-Faculty oratory contest on the theme: Examination Malpractice: Social and Religious consequences featured twelve (12) participants which include Faculty of Agriculture, Law, Veterinary medicine, Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies, Engineering, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemical Science, Physical and Computing Science and School of Matriculation among others.
The performance of the oratory contest was judged by Mallam Mustopha Bayero where Ibrahim Faruq Olaoti who represented the Faculty of Social Sciences emerged as the overall winner of the contest with 111 points.
In an interview with the winner, Faruq Ibrahim Olaoti expressed his gladness over his emergence as the overall winner of the oratory contest.
"Everybody is a winner, just that someone must be called the overall winner. It is a wish by me, but with help from Allah," he said.
He, however, expressed his gratitude to his parents for their parental prayers and support for his academic excellence and extended his appreciation to the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Head of Department, Political Science, Professor S.Y.B Kura.
While advising his fellow students, Olaoti said that nothing is impossible because everything is possible when supported with prayers.
"Keep shooting, keep striving and keep moving, success will surely locate you one day," he advised.
