The outstanding campus press outfit, PEN Press, under the aegis of the National Association of Campus Journalists (NACJ), UDUS chapter, held a screening exercise on Sunday 28th of November, 2021, for her intending members, as a requirement to become official members of the PEN family.
The screening, held at A134 class of the Faculty of Arts and Islamic studies, was a medium for examining the intending members' assimilation and inculcation of the training sessions facilitated by her editors in subsequent weeks, covering the areas of creative writing, oration and reporting amongst others.
During the exercise, the Editor-in-Chief of the press outfit, Abdulrasheed Hammad, promised the intending members that they would publicize results for the test soon, assuring those who excel, thereupon, of admission into the PEN Family.
He also besought intending members to see the exercise as an opportunity to prepare themselves for the challenges they may encounter in the field of journalism.
Promise Eze, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the outfit, encouraged intending members to be creative and have a passion for writing.
He said, "We want to see new bylines on our board. Every intending member should write at least one article or report today, and those who have been writing should not stop."
In a post-screening interview with the Editor-in-Chief, Abdulrasheed Hammad, he revealed that the rationale behind the exercise is to test the members on the preliminary aspects of journalism and make them realize the significance of joining the campus press.
He also expressed his pleasure at the laudable conduct of the intending members during the exercise whilst saying, "We aim to produce the next set of highly consistent and dedicated campus journalists on the Fodiyo varsity soil."
