UDUS' Law Lecturer Appointed By WIPO As Panelist To Judge Nationwide Essay Contest

Dr. Muhammad Murtala Aminu, a Trademarks and Intellectual Property Expert cum Law Lecturer in the Faculty of Law, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has been appointed by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), to assess entries for this year's maiden edition of the WIPO National Intellectual Property Essay Competition.

Every 26th of April is usually observed, celebrated as World Intellectual Property Day - and as such, to commemorate this,  WIPO had on 26th April, 2020, officially launched a national intellectual property essay competition, which is open to all registered students of all tertiary institutions in Nigeria for participation in showing that Intellectual Property Rights fuel innovation and creativity.





The theme for this year's edition is tagged "Making Innovation Work for a Green Future in Nigeria" is dainty with mouthwatering opportunity for selected winners. However, May 26th was announced as submission deadline.

Dr. Muhammad Murtala Aminu of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto was appointed among other chosen Law Gurus, Intellectual Property Law Experts cum Consultants through out Nigeria.

However, while interviewing him about how he and his co-panelists would dispense justice and dedicate their time to the competition while assessing entries, he maintained that they all are people of integrity and they would align themselves base on academics.
"We are all people of integrity and from the academics we believe in merit. There we are going to judge this essay on its merit and only those that deserve to win will win."

He further encouraged all students to utilize the opportunity - participate and also make use of their knowledge of Intellectual Property after making serious research and proper consultations with experts to come up with a very original and meaningful write up.

In his words, he revealed the rationale stating that:
"Students' recommendations will be put into use by WIPO, the Nigerian government and general public in using intellectual Property for a better Green Future."




Interviewing him of his depth of happiness on how he felt, if any surprise when being appointed, he had this say:
"I am not surprised because apart from my advanced degrees in the field of Intellectual Property, I also have a strong passion about this area of the law plus, I am also an active member of several National Intellectual Property Organisations such as the Intellectual Property First Group, the Intellectual Property Law Association and the Intellectual Property Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association - Section on Business Law." he unveiled.

He further stated that as a result of his membership of these specialized Intellectual Property bodies, he has made very useful contact with IP Experts, Administrators and Intellectual Property Law Lecturers all over Nigeria and abroad.
