MEET THE NEW AND YOUNGEST EVER PANS' NATIONAL PRESIDENT

Muhammad Adeyemi (200level Biochemistry department) reports for PEN PRESS UDUS.

M
ubarak Muhammad Altine is an indigene of Sokoto state and a student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. Born on Saturday, 7th of June, 1997, he is a 500level Pharmacy student and the current National President of Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS). Also an active member of PEN PRESS UDUS.

In an exclusive interview granted to the PEN PRESS UDUS correspondent, he said "Even though there are series of challenges, I don't see age(because I am 21 years old) as barrier in chasing your dreams. I think I'm the youngest president PANS ever had in it history. Also, age is not one of the key requirement for aspiring to the office, so it didn't affect me in either way."

He assumed office as the president-elect of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian students on the 15th of July, 2018 after winning the election by a distinct margin after he was sworn in as the National President of the Association on the 14th of October, 2018 at the venue of the 2018 National convention which was held at Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-iwoye, Ogun state.

While responding to questions on the level of preparation needed to have a hitch free and successful National convention at Sokoto next year he replied,  "As it is clear and known to everyone, 70% of preparation of anything like this is made up of the FINANCE. As of now, I'm already prepared for the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) national conference coming up in Ibadan next week which will serve as an avenue for me to meet Managing Directors and C.E.Os of many pharmaceutical industries in Nigeria. These people serve as the major sponsors of PANS activities."

Finally, when asked if there were specific initiatives that he would implement to strengthen PANS’ role as a conduit between students and administrators, he answered "Of course. I have been thinking of things like that and also seek advice from friends and other pharmacy students even those outside Nigeria. Presently we have the national convention and the pharmacosymposia. But we also need to understand that we are in a dynamic world and also serving a dynamic profession. So we shouldnt be static."

"I'm making plans on how to make it possible to hold Model United Nations (MUN) development programs. These programs are internationally recognised and highly employed programs that will prepare students and youth to serve the world in all capacity. Also, as one documentaries relate, HEALTH is one of the top 10 problems humanity is facing and will be facing in the next 50 years. I see it necessary to have young minds get themselves ready in solving these problems. Through health hackathon, young phamacists will sit to identify problems being faced by the profession, look into the ideas and the reality, then come up with a possible soulution. With programs like this, I'm sure that the potentials of pharmacy students won't be wasted after school", he said further.
