JUNGLE JUSTICE: SUSPENSION OF UNION LEADERS
I shall not bear ill-will towards anybody, I shall fear God and I shall conquer untrue with the truth and in resisting untrue, I shall shun away all sentiments.
It's no more news that some executive officers of students' union of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto were suspended by the legislative arm of the Union---SRA but the question remains on what ground?
I have no intention of writing anything on it, but the oath I took to my grave to always speak for the oppressed stopped my shoulders from resting on my pillow all night.
Usmanu Danfodiyo University is believed to be the most peaceful university in this axis because of its respect and adherence for both natural and constitutional laws.
Its on this ground, coming across the Press release of the legislative arm, suspending the President and welfare for allege violation of the constitution and the Financial secretary for not appearing before the House to account for the Union's funds. I deemed it fit to state here that the Speaker should also be punished for violating the constitution.
Frankly speaking, by virtue of article 13 and 16, the election, representation and speakership of the speaker are null and void.
It should also be noted that; the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is supreme to any other constitutional law including the Students' Handbook. A glance into section 36, subsection 12 stated that nobody should be punished for any offence unless that offence is defined and stated in a written law. Punishing someone for not presenting self before the House is not only deviant to the Union's constitution but also to that of the Country.
To this effect, by virtue of article 12, item 3 subitem 6, the election of the speaker should be cancelled, a new date for by-election should be fixed for his faculty to send a new representative and the suspension of the Financial secretary should be reversed as it has no constitutional backing.
In conclusion and recommendation, the Division of Students Affairs under Professor Aminu Mode, the overseer of elections and other students' activities should complete the outstanding arm of the Union as stated in article 10, page 78 of the Union's constitution and a committee of investigators should be set to investigate and nullify elections of all officers who contested under a banner or caucus. Justice is law and abuse of the law is injustice.
Ours is to expose hidden atrocities.....
